Of all the players exiting Arizona this off-season none is a greater loss than the retirement of Kurt Warner. Warner came to AZ as a backup to Leinart, but due to Whisenhunt's 'policy' of open competition Warner became the starter and the rest is history. In the case of Leinart, I'm not so sure it's time to openly state that the starting QB position is Leinart's to lose. Leinart is not Kurt Warner and I think he needs the confidence of his coach in addition to his own self-confidence.
Leinart's stay in AZ has been interesting at best, but he's hung in there, learned from the sideline, tutored by Warner and put in the reps. For him to be on par with someone who isn't even on the team yet may be the last thing Leinart needs heading into next season. I just think it's time for Whiz to declare Leinart's his man until Leinart proves he's not cut out to be a starter on this team. Unlike Warner and his steely attitude, Matt may be best served with an uncharacteristic vote of confidence before the outcasts of other teams hit town for a tryout.
Just sayin'. | Please. Matt had competition at USC and he did very well inspite of it...Matt Cassel was breathing down his neck his first two seasons as the starting QB at SC. By his final season, no one could take the job from him, the coaches trusted him to call his own plays acording to what he saw on the field.
You must not follow the Arizona Cardinals....Kurt Warner was signed prior to Matt's drafting by the Cardinals in 2006. As a matter of fact, Kurt's first few seasons were anything but stellar...2-8, 1-4, 5-6.
Matt has been studying with Tom Brady and mentored by Joe Montana...and moving back home to Southern California has matured him, but more than anything else, it is due to the birth of his son that has had the greatest impact.
When Matt has played as many games, and in the league for as many years as Kurt, then you can compare the two. |
