Jaguars QB David Garrard Not A Lock To Start In 2010?

Jaguars quarterback David Garrard will go to training camp as the starter, but knows he has to outplay backup Luke McCown to keep his job. Garrard acknowledged as much Thursday in an interview before a Team Teal ticket rally at City Hall, saying there's "a little heat under the pants.'' "I'm not stupid. I'm not naïve. I definitely need to go in and play my best,'' Garrard said. "Competition is always healthy and always a good thing. If I can't do enough to outplay the guy that is backing me up, then absolutely it should be his job.'' Although McCown played in only three games and threw just one pass last year, he's a six-year veteran who impressed the coaching staff with his work in practice last year.

If they're dumb enough to bench Garrard for anyone on that roster, that whole organization deserves to be fired. He's not the greatest QB, but he's better than anyone on the roster, or anyone they will draft.
