LaDainian Tomlinson Would Accept Backup Role With The Vikings

The Vikings wined and dined free-agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson on Wednesday night at a steakhouse in downtown Minneapolis with coach Brad Childress and vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman headling a group of team officials that included offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, running backs coach Eric Bieniemy, director of player personnel George Paton and even nose tackle Pat Williams. Afterward, a Star Tribune reporter asked Tomlinson if being a third down back would be something he would be willing to step into or would he have a problem with it? "I don't [have a problem with it]. I know I can catch the ball really well out of the backfield, can run routes and that's something that I've always looked for as I got older in my career," Tomlinson said. "Being able to fall back on that. Not having to carry the ball as much. I think that's what was lost in San Diego because I was the only guy that could really carry the ball 20 times. So my third-down role was reduced. So now I'm looking for that. It's something I can do and I can fit in well."

The Vikings are going to be plain scary in 2010 if this goes down.

It would certainly lessen the need for Brett Favre. An average to better than average could step into that situation merely to manage the game with a duo like that behind him. But if Favre does try it again, I agree Crowned, that would make the 2010 Vikings very scary and my front-runner for the NFC title. No hate for any other NFC team, just acknowledging the potential impact of an LT signing.

Would LT honestly have a choice if he signs with the Vikings? I'm glad to hear he would accept a role as a backup. The sign of a team player.
