Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Expresses Concern Over "Poison Pill" Contracts

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones is not necessarily worried about a team coming after restricted free agent wide receiver Miles Austin, but he is concerned about dealing with a possible "poison pill" contract that would make it even more difficult for him to match in an uncapped year. After Minnesota and Seattle got involved in those dealings regarding offensive guard Steve Hutchinson and wide receiver Nate Burleson a few years ago, the NFL did not ban such contracts but let it be known they are frowned upon. "That's always a concern and that's one of the things that needs to be addressed in the new collective bargaining agreement," Jones said. "Those are called unintended consequences there. What turns into trying to be competitive among clubs and what turns into trying to be fair for a player turns into being a disadvantage for the clubs."
