Bob McGinn of The Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reports that one source said the Packers earlier discussed a new contract for defensive end Aaron Kampman that would average about $5 million per year, or about the same as his expiring four-year, $21 million deal average. But with the Packers providing positive reports on Kampman's recovery from reconstructive knee surgery, and agent Neil Cornrich selling his client around the NFL combine this week, his average per year might shoot even higher. "The ACL is not an issue," Cornrich said. "It was a very easy repair. The surface of the knee is clean." The top pass rusher on the market will be Julius Peppers, who could command as much as $20 million per year, and after that, knee injury and all, Kampman looks like the next-best defensive end ahead of Adewale Ogunleye, James Hall and Leonard Little. "It will be fun comparing the production of the two UFAs, Aaron Kampman and Julius Peppers, over the next three years," said Cornrich. "Aaron Kampman has shown he can be very successful in any package."
That is the same thing I thought...he is not the prototypical outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme. Why would he sign a new deal with them? Doesn't make sense...
