Cowboys WR Roy Williams Not Guaranteed A Starting Job

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams, who is guaranteed $12.9 million in bonuses and base salary this year, will have to compete to keep his starting job. "We are going to play the best player, no matter what," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said when asked whether Patrick Crayton or Kevin Ogletree could beat out Williams. Williams has been a disappointment since the Cowboys traded first-, third- and sixth-round picks to the Detroit Lions for the receiver and a seventh-rounder in the middle of the 2008 season. He has 57 catches for 794 yards and eight touchdowns in 25 games with the Cowboys.

For as much as I'd like to see Anquan Boldin stay in AZ, I think he'd be a good replacement for this overpaid underachiever. I say this without knowing what the cap numbers look like in D.

Oh that is absolutely funny! Its amazing seeing how a 7th round pick can beat a 1st, 3rd, and 6th. Oh Jerry Jones you are the Al Davis of the NL.

That is my biggest fear...as Jerry gets older I fear he will turn into another Al Davis.

I would be very upset...we don't need to draft a WR that high. We have Austin as our true #1 receiver. Now we need to let Williams, Crayton, and Ogletree battle it out.

For me its all about what the value is when we are up. I would much rather get some OL talent with that top pick, but if no one worth that pick is there and someone like Tate or Benn or even Williams are there, I wouldnt be upset. It would give us a fall back in case Williams has another 2008/2009 or if Ogletree doesnt pan out

I don't want Golden Tate...loved watching him at Notre Dame...but I don't think he has the talent and speed to cut it in the NFL.

An Irish fan that doesnt want Tate, now Ive seen everything : )

I agree with you about the speed, I dont think he is gonna time as well as some think, however I do see him as more of a run after the catch type, and has enough speed that he has to be respected deep. I like him with us because he is a guy that would be valuable even if Roy happens to work out or Ogletree steps up as a #2 as Tate can play outside or be a monster in the slot

If we happen to draft a WR high, thats why I like him and Damien Williams
