Cowboys WR Miles Austin Unlikely To Receive A Long Term Deal

There will be no franchise tag and possibly no long-term deal for breakout wide receiver Miles Austin, according to Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones. While keeping Austin in Dallas is one of the team's top priorities of the off season, Jones shot down any thoughts of the Cowboys putting the franchise tag on the restricted free agent to help ensure he remains with the Cowboys. Jones said there no reason to do that when the highest restricted free agent tender of $3.168 million with a first- and third-round draft pick compensation will do. "We don't need to use the franchise tag," Jones said. "How many times have seen another team give up a one and a three?"

Off the top of my head... once. (well actually they gave a lot more... a first, third and sixth round picks and he was give a 6 year, $54 million contract, along with $26 million guaranteed.) When you did for Roy W., but your right, someone would have to be crazy to do give up a 1 and a 3.

Good smart move by Jerry here... Miles Austin has had ONE big year. His contract year. Make the guy take a smaller deal than he expects and prove he's not a fluke.
