The Cincinnati Bengals will open contract talks with defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer next week in an effort to retain him. Zimmer’s contract is set to expire and a source with knowledge of the situation said the Bengals want to try to persuade the sought-after coach from taking a job elsewhere. According to sources, the Washington Redskins are interested in hiring Zimmer to join new coach Mike Shanahan’s staff as defensive coordinator.

Bengals Bengals Working To Keep Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer

One of the more immediate matters will be if there are any changes on Marvin Lewis’ coaching staff. The only departure at the moment is assistant offensive line coach Bob Surace, who will become the head coach at Princeton, but the key figure everyone is wondering about is defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer’s, whose contract is up. The Bengals are expected to begin negotiations on an extension with Zimmer this week.

I hope they do whatever it takes to keep him in Cincy. However the Brown family doesn't have a very good history of spending money to keep the talent in place so we'll see what happens.

There is a good chance he ends up with the redskins.

We all know Snyder will be willing to pay big money.
