While there was the appearance that backup quarterback Daunte Culpepper was ready to put his Detroit Lions days behind him — and that the team was prepared to move on without him — that’s not the case. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew on Thursday said the team might be interested in bringing back Culpepper, who is an unrestricted free agent. “I wouldn’t rule out bringing Daunte back. All Daunte’s done for us from the first day we brought him in is do what we’ve asked him to do,” Mayhew said. “Sometimes, his performance hasn’t been what we wanted, but there are a bunch of guys in that locker room we can say the same thing about — they’re good guys and they work hard but they haven’t made the play at the time the play needed to be made. All he’s done since day one is everything we’ve asked him to do.”
