Bears Believe They Will Attract Top Coaches

The Bears essentially fired six coaches early today in order to get rid of one man, offensive coordinator Ron Turner. They also announced that head coach Lovie Smith is now the latest ex-defensive coordinator for the Bears. He will step down from the role he took on last January, putting the club in line for its third defensive coordinator in four seasons. Now, the organization must hire seven new coaches for what can’t be the most attractive landing spot in the league. For starters, the Bears are 23-25 in the last three seasons and with two years remaining on his contract, Smith is essentially under a win-or-else mandate. "I know there will be that perception (that Smith is a lame-duck coach),’’ general manager Jerry Angelo said. ``I'm not naive to think that that won't be. I do not foresee us having problems in getting coaches. In fact I don't really see us going out to recruit coaches and have to tell them to come to Chicago. I think given the fact that we feel very confident that we're going to win anTd given the fact that we are here in Chicago, I think we are going to have a bevy of coaches wanting to be here. And I feel that sincerely.’’
