Rookie Aaron Brown was benched after what Lions coach Jim Schwartz called a "boneheaded play" late in the second quarter, on a kickoff return, Brown fielded a bouncing ball at the Detroit 1, with the sideline to his left and the goal line behind him and he was tackled at the 4. "There's a lot of different things you can do in that situation," Schwartz said. "We have covered every one of his options right there." Schwartz said Brown could have established himself out of bounds and then touched the ball, making the ball out of bounds and giving the Lions possession at the 40 but he also could have let the ball go. But Brown didn't just make a judgment error, the Ravens kicked opposite to where the Lions' return was set up, the Lions were supposed to switch it to the side of the kick. "And every single person other than our returner was on the same page with that," Schwartz said. "There was a reason why ... we got tackled inside our 5-yard line. It was a failure to execute the scheme. It was a poor decision. At that point in the game, we needed a return right there."
