The Bears owe Lovie Smith more than $10 million over the next two seasons in a contract that runs through 2011 -- an extension he landed after the Bears' Super Bowl appearance. But after a 36-10 debacle Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, he's violating the Ted Phillips doctrine -- the team president's mantra that the Bears have avoided stacking losses during the Smith era. Working in Smith's favor is the fact that owners are bracing for a work stoppage that could wipe out the 2011 season and no team would want to pay two high-priced coaches to do nothing during a lockout.
