Jamal Lewis will play against his first team, the Baltimore Ravens, for the final time on Monday night, but that isn't the story for now. Lewis unloaded on Coach Eric Mangini in the locker room Thursday and said one reason the Browns, 1-7, play as poorly as they do is by Sunday they have nothing left; they are beaten and tired from long drawn-out practices in pads. He said he was in pads more the first eight weeks of the 2009 season than he was in three years in Baltimore. "The way we work in two-a-days in training camp and the way we work every day on the field for two and a half, three hours, you want a 'W' on Sunday when you work like that," Lewis said. "There's talent all over this locker room, young and old, but the talent has to be ready on Sunday and to be fresh for Sunday and be efficient on Sunday. You can work as hard as you want. You can work all day seven days a week all the way up until Sunday in practice. At the same time, if you're going to work like that, maybe on Sunday you're not going to get what you want out of your players."
I dislike Mangini with a passion. He might make it thru this season, but next year will be his last at Cleveland. His players hate his guts, which sure doesn't help to build team chemistry.
eh, there are a lot of coaches that have won SB's that run hard practices. a lot of times players just complain about hard practices because they don't want to work as hard. take all of this with a grain of salt.

True, but they have to respect you, and have confidence in your coaching, that their hard work will lead to results. Otherwise your just an asshole. Mangini was an asshole before he got to Cleveland, and it sure didn't take long for the players to pick up on it, especially with the fines.
That is true Stubing but I think Mangini's thing has been to 'Out Belichik Belichik' so he works the bag off of his guys to an unnecessary degree thinking that it'll get better results, which when it doesn't sure breeds contempt in a hurry.

You don't beat Belichick with extra pads time, you beat him with brains, game scheming. Josh McDaniels is in that group, not Mangini. McDaniels will be a successful coach in the NFL, Mangini a complete failure.

Couldn't put it any better...
If Mangini were smart, he ought to play the young backs...Lewis shouldn't see the field...ever...
