A 3-4 defense without a quality nose tackle isn't much of a defense and that's why Miami Dolphins fans should be concerned about the possible absence of nose tackle Jason Ferguson, whose elbow injury appears to be more serious than the team has let on. On Friday the Dolphins listed Ferguson and inside linebacker Channing Crowder as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Patriots and while both are important to the Dolphins run stuffing efforts, we've seen the Dolphins win without Crowder, who coach Tony Sparano believes has Pro Bowl potential. We haven't seen this defense win without Ferguson, the grizzled veteran who regularly takes on two blockers on first and second downs.
