Bears Players Support Coach Lovie Smith

Local sports talk radio is filled with angry Bears fans, calling for the firing of coach Lovie Smith. "Why doesn't he show any emotion on the sideline; he's too passive," callers routinely proclaim. "I'll hang up and listen to your answer." A Web site has been created, FireLovieSmith.com, for like-minded commentaries as to why the third winningest coach in Bears history should be replaced before his contract expires after the 2011 season but Bears players remain in his corner. "I was here when coach Smith wasn't here," veteran defensive end Alex Brown said. "So, I remember how it was. Not to say anything bad about coach (Dick) Jauron, but it's a lot different now. Coach (Smith) has a way of doing things, and that's doing it right all of the time. And if you don't adapt to that, then you won't be here. He has taken us to the promised land (Super Bowl XLI) once. And I believe he will do it again here real soon."

This is going to be a fun topic for the next year here in Chicago because Lovie Smith will be the Bears head coach in 2010.

i'm torn on lovie. i think he's a 'good' coach. he has some obvious weaknesses though. i'm just not sure the next guy would be any better unless his name rhymes with Cowher.

Spot on about LS...

'Fans' complaining about things like he's "too passive" don't know football. Just getting a more animated coach will solve nothing especially since the majority of today's athletes actually perform worse when they're yelled at. Besides, a lot of the issues at hand can be directly laid on Jerry Angelo's doorstep for fielding this current squad. The combination of Angelo's & Smith's weaknesses are a killer right now. The only big change will come if the Bear organization decides to take it to the next level & hire a GM or HC with a proven resume & the odds aren't in our favor.

I'm betting the fans that lived thru Jauron, Wanny, Armstrong, Pardee, Gibron, & Dooley aren't calling for this knee jerk solution.

Be careful what you wish for. The next coach could be a ton worse.

One guy can sometimes impact your team so much that you miss him terribly when he's not out there and your team just isn't as good, Urlacher is that player for the Bears, I don't think it's Lovie.
