| 49ers Defend Releasing KR Allen Rossum | | | The 49ers released reliable veteran return man Allen Rossum two weeks ago to make room on the 53-man roster for rookie receiver Michael Crabtree. Rossum's sure hands have been missed, as Arnaz Battle has struggled with ball security on punt returns and a muffed punt by Battle was quickly turned into a Texans touchdown in the second quarter Sunday. Coach Mike Singletary tried to defend the organization's decision to release Rossum, whom the Dallas Cowboys quickly signed. "Rossum had some issues, too," Singletary said. "It's not like he was catching everything clean. They both have issues. We just have to find a way to get that settled, and that's something we have to settle in a hurry because it makes no sense at all. It makes no sense to be dropping balls." Source: FOXSports.com | | |
