It isn't likely that former Cleveland Browns receiver Braylon Edwards will get suspended this season, or even at all for his misdemeanor assault charge for his alleged connection with an incident outside the View Ultralounge & Nightclub on Prospect Avenue earlier this month. Reporter Mark Cannizzaro of The New York Post writes that a spokesperson from the NFL told him that there isn't any chance Edwards will be suspended. The NFL spokesperson said that "under the PC [player conduct] policy, when a player like Braylon, with no prior history of conduct issues, has been charged, we wait for a court resolution. Then we would review the facts for any possible discipline." The New York Jets issued a statement about being "aware" of the allegations before they traded for Edwards. The Jets, who acquired Edwards shortly after the incident, also said the risk was manageable in acquiring Edwards.
yes, typically, for a first time offender, Goodell waits to see how it plays out in court. for multi-time offenders, he suspends just for getting charged (PacMan comes to mind).
