In "The Battle of Unbeatens" at the Louisiana Superdome, the New Orleans Saints (5-0) emphatically etched out their most impressive victory of the season, handing the previously undefeated New York Giants (5-1) a 48-27 defeat in front of 70,011 spectators. Saints quarterback Drew Brees was at his best, passing for 369 yards and four touchdowns while exposing a top-ranked Giants defense that didn't get pressure up front and struggled in pass coverage. It was a disappointing homecoming to his native New Orleans for Manning, who finished 14-of-31 for 178 yards with a touchdown, a pick and a fumble – plus a pick by nemesis Darren Sharper that was nullified with a late hit by Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma.
