Childress, in his fourth season of a five-year contract, has coached the Vikings to victories in 14 of their past 17 regular-season games. If Wilf decides he can't get public approval for a new stadium, as did his predecessor Red McCombs, he probably wouldn't want to extend Childress' contract because a new long-term deal for a coach, regardless of who he is, and staff could be a liability in trying to sell the team.
