On the day the Texans reduced their roster to 53 by waiving 22 players, coach Gary Kubiak disclosed that the backup quarterback competition is even between Dan Orlovsky and Rex Grossman. As the Texans begin preparations for next Sunday's regular-season opener against the New York Jets at Reliant Stadium, Kubiak and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will monitor the competition between Orlovsky and Grossman. "He did a heck of a job," Kubiak said about Grossman. "He was very impressive with how he played and how he handled the team. "I think that he and Dan are both our backups in my mind. I'll make a decision on that as the week goes on, but I have confidence in both of them. There could be a couple of practices without Matt, so there might be plenty of reps to go around."
