The Bears will start the season with two quarterbacks on the active roster after informing Brett Basanez of his release. Basanez expects to remain on the team's practice squad. "I'm obviously disappointed not to be on the active roster,'' Basanez said. "Chicago usually keeps three, and Ron (Turner) said it would only be two this year. But it's also promising because they obviously liked me enough to keep me around (on the practice squad). Plus I'm home. I'm still a part of the team.'' The Northwestern and St. Viator grad intends to sign his practice squad contract Sunday if he clears waivers. "I'll still be the No. 3 guy, basically,'' Basanez said. "Because of injuries or whatever, they needed to keep more guys on defense. I understand that.''
