Steelers RB Isaac Redman Will Have Hard Time Making Roster

Undrafted rookie Isaac Redman made a name for himself early in training camp when he scored five times in seven attempts in a goal-line drill in practice, but Tomlin reiterated yesterday that he will have a hard time making the 53-man roster unless he demonstrates that he can do more than carry the ball into the end zone. "A lot of times those roles are determined by other things," Tomlin said of which back will get the most carries near the goal line. "Is a guy good enough to make a 53-man roster? Is he capable of doing other things? A lot of times a guy that is a candidate gets an opportunity because he's a functional special teams player. That's not only what gets them on the team but gets them a game-day hat. "Gary Russell was able to get an opportunity to be [the goal-line back] in the past because he was a reliable special teams player. ... I would imagine that if our goal-line runner is anyone other than Willie Parker or Rashard Mendenhall it will be because they're capable of doing other things. That's where we are with it." Tomlin discussed the importance of being versatile with Redman before he addressed reporters yesterday. He said he was merely telling him what it will take for him to make the team. "I'm not trying to motivate anyone through fear," Tomlin said. "I'm just trying to provide information. I provide similar information to guys like Frank Summers."

I hope he gets some chance to show what he's got in the 2nd half this week against Buffalo. I'd like to see him get many carries as Vincent has been getting last 2 games and see if he has any production. We know he's money in short yardage but maybe he can find the nearest hole and be a 2-3 yard bowling ball on a consistent basis.

I agree. I'd like to see him get a few more carries as well. If he's really that good on the goal line, I'd like to see what he's got between the 20's. I don't really recall seeing much of him on special teams either...but I wasn't really looking for him. Maybe I'll go back and look at the tapes...

Maybe he will get put on the practice squad and will work on his special teams play and try it again next season. If not I have a feeling he may catch on somewhere else. The kid has got heart.

For some reason I think Vincent will make the practice squad. He's just got some burst every now and again that makes me feel like they'll want to keep him around. I doubt they would keep both...he's still got 2 games to step it up. Not sounding promising for Frank "The Tank" though...I think he's a goner...
