Rookie DE Ziggy Hood Continues To Impress Steelers Coaches

Not only has first round draft pick Ziggy Hood been a standout through two weeks of training camp, he stood out in the preseason opener Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals, registering a sack and beating a double-team block to hurry Cardinals quarterback Brian St. Pierre into a throw that was intercepted and returned 42 yards by rookie cornerback Joe Burnett. Hood has been doing that almost since the first of camp, and it has not surprised defensive line coach John Mitchell, who is a tough critic. "I thought Ziggy played really well," Mitchell said. "There are a lot of things he has to do on this level to become the type of player he wants to be. This was his first professional game, and I think he reverted back to some of the things he did in college, but that's to be expected. I told [defensive coordinator] Dick [LeBeau] and [coach] Mike [Tomlin], for the group I have, they're farther along than any group I've had."

I still can't find an article that says Hood is getting pushed around in camp...

ive just heard of him getting blown up in the run game by guys like AQ shipley...and shipley is fucking terrible. i never ever doubted hoods ability to be a pass rusher but i havent seen him do things 34 ends should do yet and that sack he got was wide open....hannah montana could have gotten that. i hate hood and i hate everything about the pick but i never said he couldnt be a good pass rusher cause i think in a 43 he could be sick, but in the 34 hes a liability right now
