Texans' Rex Grossman Accepting Role As No. 3 QB

Rex Grossman is the one staying after practice on this sweltering morning, throwing pass after pass to the young wide receivers, getting them extra work while getting some for himself. Gary Kubiak promised to help Grossman jump-start his career, to coach the heck out of him, and maybe they both can get something out of what probably will be a one-year marriage. Grossman likely will begin the season behind Matt Schaub and Dan Orlovsky on the Texans' quarterback depth chart, and while he won't like not playing, this year might end up serving a purpose. “I felt like this is a good offense, a chance to learn and revive my career and get going and have a fresh start,” Grossman said. “Whatever your job is, you've got to do it like you're the best in the league,” Grossman said. “If they have me at third string, I'm going to be the best third-string quarterback in the league. I'm going to set my goals high. I want to start in this league again.”

At this point right now, unless he wants to be job searching again, does he really have a choice but to accept the No. 3 QB role?

Even Grossman's stats in 2006 when the Bears went to the Super Bowl wern't great. 23 TD passes, 20 INTs, 54.6% of his passes completed, and 73.9 QB rating.

So our backs ups are a guy that ran out of the back of the endzone on a drop back for a saftey, and a guy that throws int's like the DB's are his team mates.
And then you have an injury prone Schaub............

Once Grossman's confidence is shot, it's shot. Heading into the game against Arizona in 2006, Grossman had 10 TD passes and 3 INTs. He ends up throwing 4 INTs that game. Plus the Cardinals blitzed the shit out of him that game. If Grossman ever learns how to react well to pressure he'll be fine. If not, then he's fucked.
