NFL To Come Down Hard On Plaxico Burress, Michael Vick?

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is leaning toward indefinitely suspending former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress and continuing to sideline quarterback Michael Vick, three sources with knowledge of the situations have indicated. Such moves would be the latest examples of Goodells tough stance on players embroiled in off-field issues as evidenced with the suspension of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth earlier this month. Stallworth has been ruled out indefinitely by the league after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter in the death of a Miami man in March.

Yup, I agree 100% on Vick. Yeah, the dog fighting ring was wrong. Vick paid for it by going to jail and basically has to start from scratch with all the money he lost.

I disagree. He paid his time for the illegal actions he did. What about all the lieing he did to the NFL and the Falcons in regards to these crimes. If he would of been straight right off the bat I would say yes let him play, but since he lied over and over to the NFL and then failed drug tests while awaiting trial I would have no problem with a 4 game suspension.

Missing out on two years of pay and being cut by the team isn't punishment for the lieing?

Nope he missed the time due to legal issues, and was cut to save the team money for a player who isnt playing. I know most will disagree with me on this but hell this is what forums are for

No your fine Dave, keeps threads alive and makes them more fun.

Here is why I feel the way I do.

The lost time and the lost wages would of happened even before the new czar was in place. You get arrested you miss work and miss wages. That part is a no brainer.

As far as being cut, as a business owner you have to know when to cut your losses. By cutting Vick the amount of money lost by the Falcons was much less then it would of been not to cut him.

Therefore both of those would of happened even without the new conduct policies.

Now Vick had a chance to come clean to both Branch and Goodell about his involvement in this dog fighting ring, but chose to lie up until he was so deep in his lies there was no way out. Then on top of that he failed a drug test while though not playing, he was still employed by the NFL. The failed drug test warrants a suspension by itself, then add on the lieing. This is why I do not have a problem with a 4 game or less suspension. Now if it would go past 4 games I would say it is to much.

Good Points Bergy. I just think the man paid his debt to society why should he have to pay a seprate debt to his employer. That's like two punishments for the same crime It just feels like a double jepoardy situation to me.
