LSU's All American cornerback and Bednarik Award winner Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed from the team for violation of team rules, Tigers' Coach Les Miles told the media in a hastily called noon press conference Friday. Mathieu a college sensation as the Honey Badger during the Tigers 13-0 run to the BCS championship game last season with big defensive plays and two punt returns for touchdowns late in the season. He is a native of New Orleans and prepped at St. Augustine. The 5-feet-9, 175-pounder had encountered off-field trouble before. He and teammates Spencer Ware and Tharold Simon were suspended for the Auburn game after testing positive for synthetic marijuana.
The Media will be talking about it for a week at least. He really didn't do much versus Alabama, anyway. They may still be the favorite, but this is a huge loss to them. In the return game. Secondary. He had a nose for the football, but apparently a nose for trouble as well.
Mettenberger will be the real story by season's end. I think Mathieu is a great player, but LSU has a tradition of great corners, I'm willing to bet there is someone waiting in the wings to replace him
They began last year with a scandal surrounding them, involving Jefferson. Now, they are without Honey Badger. Ranked #1 in preseason. New Qb that should be upgrades over Jefferson and Lee. ANd they also have Bolden on the roster now, too.
