Clemson Freshman LB Tony Steward Tears ACL; Out For The Year Clemson freshman linebacker Tony Steward suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season, according to Tigers coach Dabo Swinney. Steward, rated Sporting News’ 27th-best player in the 2011 class, had five tackles in five games this season. The 6-foot-1, 245-pound linebacker injured his knee at practice Tuesday. “Tony suffered the injury while back-pedaling in practice on a punt drill on Tuesday,” Swinney said. “It is not the same knee he injured in high school (also a torn ACL). He will rehab and be ready to go in the summer. He is a hard worker and I know will be ready for next year. “We plan to apply for a medical hardship to get the year back. We realize it will take a special waiver to have that granted by the NCAA.” Source THe Sporting News |
