Notre Dame A Target For Big 12? Only a year ago, it seemed as if the Big East was in a most vulnerable position, a notion that may resurface under some possible scenarios. There are informed sources familiar with the Big 12 who are certain that it has its eyes on Notre Dame, which is an independent in football but a member of the Big East in basketball. If A&M departs [for the SEC], as most believe it will, (or if the Big 12 presidents get tired of its duplicitous ways and shows them the door), aggressively pursuing a big name such as Notre Dame would be a stroke of genius. If you want to send a strong message that you will no longer be the weakling on the block, going after Notre Dame is the sort of move that will create that impression emphatically.
