Texans Have A “50-50 Chance” Of Re-Signing DE Mario Williams?

Despite not applying the franchise tag to Mario Williams, the Houston Texans still have a 50-50 chance to keep the linebacker, according to ProFootballTalk.com on Sunday. Williams, the first pick in the 2006 NFL Draft who was lost for last season in Week 5 after tearing a pectoral muscle, would have received $22 million next season under the franchise tag. The Texans must decide if Williams is expendable since their new 3-4 defense impressed after Williams' season-ending injury, according to ProFootballTalk. Big offers from elsewhere are another concern. Williams, 27, is considered the top defensive free agent in this year's class, after totaling 53 sacks in six seasons with the Texans.
