i just posted a thread that showed the same 3 teams have represented the AFC for the last 9 years. There have been 15-1 seasons and even a 16-0 season recently.

Yes, I think there are great teams from year to year in the NFL.

In fact, with the growth in popularity of the sport over the last 30-40 years, players getting bigger/faster, and coaches/schemes getting better, I would make a strong case that there are more great teams in this league than ever before.

And that may be the problem with recent SB participants being #6 seeds or having barely above .500 regular seasons. There is SO much talent in this league now that even a great team can struggle to win games for a while, but when they are clicking on all cylinders, they can dominate.

I disagree. The salary cap has taken care of that. There's just a lot of mediocrity in the NFL these days.

well, i see what you're saying but even with free agency and the salary cap, we still seem to be getting these same dynasties that we had in the 70's, 80's and 90's .............

In the 70's, Dallas, Miami, Minnesota, and Pittsburgh repeatedly made it to the SB.

In the 80's, the Redskins, 49ers, and Broncos were there all the time.

In the 90's, it was the Cowboys and Bills.

Since 2000, it's been the Pats and Steelers.

How can you say the Pats making the SB 5 times in 11 years or the Steelers 3 times in 6 years is not great?

In this year's NFC Championship Game going on right now, the 9ers have the 26th ranked offense, and the Giants have the 29th-ranked defense.

Like I said, mediocre.

well, but those are just regular season stats, which don't mean a whole lot. the SB-winning Colts team had a twenty something ranked defense in the regular season but turned it on for the playoffs. the last steeler SB winning team finished twenty something in offense in the regular season but again turned it on in the playoffs. a lot of teams do this.

I agree. Colts, Steelers, Patriots all three are great teams.

If not for a fluke ass lucky play by Eli and Tyree, The Patriots have another super bowl win, and a perfect season.

Not every super bowl winning team has a stud player at every position. But they normally have big names on the field, and these teams do.

Patriots are a great team, even if people don't want to admit it. The offense is among the best ever, and the defense gets it done when it counts. Any team that's in the Super Bowl is a great team. You have to be to make it through the playoffs. The Niners look great, as do the Giants.

In terms of franchise's, the Patriots and Steelers. If the Giants win the SB then they join them

Rule changes in the passing game have killed the NFL. The Packers this season were the most overrated team in the history of the NFL. You can win alot of regular season games, score alot of points, get very high TV ratings by tailoring your offense to exploit rule changes factoring the passing game. You'll most likley lose to a thought to be infirior team (but if you look at the Giants and Packers rosters, you'll see the Giants are vastly more talented) in the playoffs

Define great. Is a great team a team that goes to five Super Bowls in a decade (Patriots). Or how about a team that takes two Super Bowl titles in four years? (Giants).
