The Big Ten college football conference schedule has been announced for the 2014 season

We may still have an entire 2013 schedule to play before we can even think about what happens a year from now, but the new schedule is interesting. There are two new teams (Rutgers and Maryland), new divisions and new matchups that make it completely different from your ordinary schedule release.

Without knowing about any coaching changes, new players or what will happen from now until then, let's take a shot in the dark.

Should Darrelle Revis Be Higher In Top 100?

Last offseason, Darrelle Revis placed fifth on the NFL Network�s list of the Top 100 Players in the league. This year, he comes in at #67 . It�s hard to say which honor is more impressive.

The NFL Network has compiled its Top 100 list, using exclusively ballots cast by NFL players themselves, since the 2011 offseason. In each case, the series of shows revealing the list has been titled with the current calendar year; i.e. this year�s series is called �The Top 100 Players of 2013 Presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.� However, since the votes are cast near the end of the previous year�s regular-season, it is clear that the list reflects who the players believe are the best of their peers at that time.

And that�s what makes Revis� placement in 2013 a rather striking complement.

By placing fifth on last year�s list, Revis took the highest ranking of any defensive player, following only the usual quarterback trio of Aaron Rodgers (#1), Drew Brees (#2) and Tom Brady (#4) plus Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson (#3). Revis was also eighth on the original list in 2011, third among defenders behind only Ray Lewis and Troy Polamalu.

It�s reasonable to predict that Revis would have remained in the upper reaches of that list in 2013�if not for the season-ending knee injury that interrupted his work before he had played two full games. While other standout players around the league emerged and others cemented their reputations with fine play, Revis spent the fall rehabbing.

In the end, then, it�s not critically important where Revis landed on the list (and, of course, the list itself is not critically important, though still an enjoyable conversation piece) but simply that he still attracted enough votes to be on the list at all. That issue is part of the debate in the supporting video on the NFL.com Top 100 page devoted to Revis. Obviously, plenty of Revis� peers expect his dominance to continue in 2013. As former teammate and fellow cornerback Antonio Cromartie put it, �Even with him coming off the ACL this upcoming year, he�s still going to be the best corner in the NFL.�

Several other of the league�s top cornerbacks also appear in the video, and it�s clear how much respect those at the position have for Revis. Arizona�s Patrick Peterson calls him, �The best player at my position,� and Green Bay�s Tramon Williams adds: �Polished, patient, strong � everything you want to see in a cornerback.�

Revis is the third Buccaneer to appear on the list so far. S Dashon Goldson came in at #96 and DT Gerald McCoy was ranked #92 . The NFL Network reveals a new segment of 10 players every Thursday evening; next week, the players ranked #51-60 will be announced.

[NCAA News] Eastern Michigan HC Ron English To Hold Skydiving Fundraiser To Upgrade Bathrooms

The Eastern Michigan Eagles need new bathrooms, and coach Ron English is ready to jump out of a plane to get them.

English has pledged to skydive if EMU can raise at least $60,000 through its golf outing June 8 and other donations. Those who donate $5,000 will get to spend a day with English and staff members and skydive with him.

That money will go toward retiling the bathrooms in the team's locker room and updating the fixtures and stalls.

[NFL News] Chargers Ink Ex-Colts DE/LB Dwight Freeney To A Two-Year, $8.75M Deal

Four days after the San Diego Chargers received a big blow with the loss of Melvin Ingram for the entire season with a torn ACL, the club agreed to terms with a player it hopes can fill the void.

Dwight Freeney will sign a two-year contract with the Chargers that is worth a base value of $8.75 million, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The question worth asking is how Freeney, primarily a right end in a 4-3 defense for most of his entire career in Indianapolis, will fare again in a 3-4 scheme in San Diego at the age of 33. Obviously, the club believes he can make the adjustment and with Chargers general manager Tom Telesco coming to San Diego from Indianapolis, he is well qualified to make that judgment.

Freeney moved to outside linebacker with the new Colts coaching staff last season and although he was slowed by a high ankle sprain early in the season, he made five sacks.

[NFL News] Bears Reach Agreement On 4-Year, $8.2M Deal With 1st-Rd Pick OG Kyle Long

The Chicago Bears have agreed to a four-year, $8.2 million contract with first-round offensive guard Kyle Long and a club option for a fifth year.

The Bears have now agreed to terms with all of their draft picks.

Long is expected to become an immediate starter to compete with the likes of Detroit Lions Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Drafted 20th overall out of Oregon, the 6-foot-6, 311-pounder is the son of Hall of Fame defensive lineman Howie Long and the younger brother of St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long.

WWE SmackDown opened with Miz TV. The Miz�s guests were Big Show and Randy Orton. Miz talked up Randy Orton and Big Show�s upcoming match at Extreme Rules. Show trash-talked Orton. Orton talked about his decision to trust Big Show backfiring. He said this Sunday he will right that wrong. Jack Swagger and Zeb Coulter interupt and come out. They talk about how this Sunday they will make Alberto Del Rio say 'I Quit' or as they would say in his language, 'No Mas.' Alberto Del Rio came out and said the only thing people will remember this Sunday is that Del Rio became the number one contender. He called Coulter 'Jumanaji Man'.

Mark Henry came out and talked about setting a world record for pulling semis. He said this Sunday people will remember him for beating Sheamus because he�s the strongest man in the world. Sheamus then came out and promised to leave Henry battered and bruised with welts this Sunday. Sheamus then said why wait until this Sunday and took a strap and chased the heels away.

Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns defeated The Uso�s. The Shield won after a Reigns spear. They were setting up one of the Usos for the triple power bomb when Kofi Kingston made the save. He hit the Shield with a chair and the Shield ran off

Kofi and the Usos gave a promo about overcoming the Shield.

Back from break, Teddy Long entered. He said after the last segment he was ready for Extreme Rules. He set up tonight�s six-man main event: Henry, Show and Swagger vs. Orton, Sheamus and Del Rio.

Brodus Clay and Sweet T (w/Cameron, Naomi) beat The Prime Time Players. Titus O�Neil cut an entertaining promo. He mispronounced Wichita and said real Prime Time Players went to Kansas University. The PTPers were in control early and Titus did his patented seal chant. Darren Young missed a running attempt in the corner and Tensai tagged in Brodus. Titus broke up a pin attempt, then Young got sandwiched by the big boys. Brodus hit a splash for the win.

Chris Jericho defeated Antonio Cesaro Fans chanted boring as Cesaro started in control at a slow pace. Jericho got them further on his side with a dropkick that forced Cesaro to regroup at ringside. Cesaro hit an upper-cut and some chops but got another drop kick from Jericho from the middle rope. Jericho reversed a suplex then hit the signature dropkick from the middle rope to the excitement of fans. Jericho missed a corner splash and vaulted out of the ring. Fans cheered him on as he recovered but Cesaro went back on the attack, throwing Jericho into the barricade. Back in the ring, he got a two-count on the dazed Jericho. Jericho went for the walls of jericho but Cesaro struggled away. Cesaro lifted his knees on Jericho�s moonsault attempt to regain momentum. The back-and-forth continued as Jericho got a near-fall. Jericho managed to barely kick out of a backbreaker. Jericho fought back from a sleeper and rolled up Cesaro for a two count. Cesaro earned his own 2-count immediately after and put the headlock back on. A weakened Jericho struggled to fight back and was taken down again. Jericho tried to break the headlock by backing Cesaro into the ropes but was unsuccessful. He finally broke free and scored an axe-handle from the top rope. Fandango�s gold stage setup fell in front of the Titan Tron but Jericho was oblivious. He attempted a top-rope move but was hit by the upper-cut for another near fall. Jericho put on the Walls of Jericho and Cesaro tapped out. Summer Rae entered with Fandango seemingly closely behind. Jericho watched the stage but was attacked from behind. He quickly got the best of Fandango, who ran off, then Jericho hit Cesaro with a Codebreaker.

Zeb Colter and Jack Swagger were on the Tron for a prerecorded promo. Colter ranted against the government from a conservative standpoint, touching on shady IRS activities and the Benghazi situation. Colter blasted Del Rio and said he wasn�t one of us. Colter questioned whether Ziggler was really injured or just afraid. He said he and Swagger were vilified for speaking the truth. He said real Americans never quit, but Del Rio would. He said Del Rio would quit, take his sombrero, and run back home.

Sandow gave a promo from the stage about Miz and how his winning would come to a screeching halt and that Rhodes would embarrass him on Sunday

The Miz defeated Damien Sandow. Miz made his entrance to a healthy applause. Cody Rhodes was on commentary. Sandow cowered at an attempted punch and rolled out of the ring, but Miz followed and nailed him. Back in the ring, Sandow gained the upper hand. Rhodes took the live mic and said fans should stand up and show respect for Sandow. Miz came back and grabbed the win.

WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn Aksana got in a couple moves, including a slingshot against the ropes. She taunted Kaitlyn and earned boos. Aksana was dominating for a while. Kaitlyn hits the spear for the win.

Randy Orton, Sheamus, and Alberto Del Rio beat Mark Henry, Big Show, and Jack Swagger (w/Zeb Colter) in a six-man tag. Lilian introduced Ricardo Rodriguez in Spanish, and Rodriguez introduced Del Rio in English. Ricardo was with bucket. Sheamus followed, then Orton before the heel team came out individually. Swagger and Del Rio started the match. Del Rio started hot, got Swagger to the corner and tagged in Orton. Swagger clipped Orton�s knee but Orton managed to tag Del Rio back in. Del Rio hit a shoulder-dive on Swagger outside the ring. Swagger tagged in Show, who started to beat up Del Rio. Show hit Del Rio with a big chop and tagged in Swagger. Then Henry came in for the first time and continued the attack on Del Rio. Quick tags for the heel team until Del Rio incapacitated Swagger. Swagger was first to make the tag and Show came in with a splash on Del Rio. Del Rio once again prevented from making the tag and was dragged back to the corner. More quick tags. Show with another chop behind the referee�s back. Del Rio took a beating from all three heels. Swagger locked in a submission move but Del Rio fought it off and moved out of the way of a charging Swagger in the corner. Del Rio still didn�t make the tag. Finally, a reverse on Big Show and Del Rio tagged in Sheamus. Sheamus got Show up for the Irish Curse and delivered it. He set up for the Brogue kick but was distracted by Henry, and Show took over again. Sheamus was isolated in the corner as the heels went to work. Sheamus hit Swagger with a rolling slam but Henry got to Sheamus before Sheamus could get to Orton for the tag. The Sheamus hope spots kept getting squashed by the heels. He took heavy chops from Show. Swagger continued the beating on Sheamus. The crowd was strongly behind the babyface. Sheamus hit an electric chair and made the tag to Orton. Randy performed several clotheslines to Swagger, but Henry took him down. Del Rio hit a dropkick on Henry. Swagger locked in the Patriot Lock, but Orton hit the RKO on Swagger for the win. The babyfaces celebrated. In the melee, Sheamus also hit Big Show with a Brogue Kick to close out the taping for Smackdown.

Moments ago, I have learned my cousin died of an OD of crack cocaine. In the last 48 hours, my cousin went on the last binge of her life. She was in the hospital twice for OD. I dont wanna point no fingers but you would think that this is a cry for help. What kind of ethics do these workers have? They let her sign herself out twice. You think they would of had her commited to suicide watch.

I dont wanna blame this on them. She was brought into this world with the wrong family. That side of my family is no good. Nothing but druggies and drunks. I should feel sadness but its not there. I know how fucked up that sounds. I believe thats because of my older brother. Dude beat the shit out of me when he was drunk in the middle of my sleep. I took his mini bike for a spin and let some friends ride it. I believe this event in my life that scarred me from showing my emotions.

[NFL News] Ex-Patriots WR Donte Stallworth Cleared To Play After Hot Air Balloon Accident

Free-agent wide receiver Donte' Stallworth has been cleared to return for all football activities relating to his injuries from a hot air balloon incident, a league source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Stallworth, who suffered serious burns after the hot air balloon carrying him and two other people crashed into power lines outside of Miami in early April, is expected to draw interest around the league.

Stallworth's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, previously had said that his client would be able to continue his career.

[NFL News] Attorney Says Bills DE Mario Williams' Text To Ex-Fiancee Reveals 'Suicidal Thoughts'

Attorneys for former Texans defensive lineman Mario Williams and his former fianc�e met with a mediator for three hours on Friday but were unable to reach an agreement in a lawsuit that Williams filed seeking to recover a 10.04-carat diamond engagement ring valued at $785,000, David Barron of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Houston attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents former Texans employee Erin Marzouki, said no additional mediation sessions have been scheduled and added, �I guess we are going to let the court sort it out.�

�Texas law says that if the man breaks off the engagement, the woman keeps the ring,� Buzbee said. �Mr. Williams experienced dramatic mood swings throughout the engagement. It was during one of his low points that he broke off the engagement for the last time this past December. It was only after Ms. Marzouki refused to take him back that he became angry and filed this frivolous case.

�He should have not filed a case out of anger. Ms. Marzouki will not be bullied. In the court system, no matter how rich you are, everyone is treated equally.�

Buzbee has attempted to paint a picture of Williams in his replies to the lawsuit as emotionally unstable and unable to decide his plans for or against marriage.

Friday, he released a three-page series of text messages sent to Marzouki�s mobile phone in which Williams wrote on Nov. 11, �I took 3 hydrocodones this morning and no one knows� and �I�m going to take 2 more on the plane and fade away.� He also texted �No money in the world should leave me with suicidal thoughts.�

In a message on the same day, Marzouki replied, �You told me you�re having suicidal thoughts. Clearly me & you don�t need to talk after every mean thing you said to be, but I�m going to tell DD to call you or something BC you went above and beyond saying suicidal thoughts, taking pills. Someone that you trust needs to intervene.�

Of course, Woodson is very familiar with the Lions.

Woodson is currently a free agent, and seeing him in Honolulu Blue would be a dream come true for many Lions fans. It also is a possibility Woodson is not opposed to.

"Here's the thing about the Lions," Woodson said during said during the WTKA-AM (1050) "Mott Takeover" radiothon. "The Lions have players. They just haven't been able to put it together. Would I be open to playing (for them)? No question. But the dollars have to make sense, too.".

Woodson may have eight Pro Bowls on his r�sum�, but if he is looking to get paid like a premier free agent, he will make observations about the Lions from his couch in 2013.

[NFL News] Cowboys OT Tyron Smith Believes Family Stole $1M Via Financial Manager

You may remember last year when Cowboys OT Tyron Smith called 911 after his siblings showed up at his Dallas home to "harass and torment" him "in the pursuit of collecting financial gain," in the words of the police report. He also was forced to file a restraining order against his mother and step-father.

He agreed to pay his parents in four installments after getting drafted, but they kept coming back for more.

"There was a certain amount I agreed to give them, but it went way beyond that and I was just like, 'I'm done,'" Smith said. "I feel like I shouldn't have given them so much. There was nothing wrong with helping them out and making sure they were taken care of, but not something to where they live the same lifestyle as you."

Smith's lawyer alleged that his mom and/or step-dad threatened Smith's well-being and the life of his girlfriend. The lawyer also alleged that Smith's family took more than $1 million from him after the money went missing a financial advisor his parents recommended was used.

"There was money missing, but I just don't know where it went," Smith said. "There were times I would check my statements and it wouldn't make sense and I hadn't authorized it at all. I just felt betrayed and I was like, 'Who can I trust?'"

"The takeaway from this is don't let people take advantage of you. And it's all right to say no to certain people," Smith said.

[NFL News] Raiders WR/KR Josh Cribbs Says Jets GM John Idzik's Remarks A 'Negotiation Tactic'

Newly signed Oakland Raiders wide receiver/returner Josh Cribbs downplayed the extent of his knee injury in a conference call with Bay Area reporters Thursday.

After the whirlwind tour, Cribbs took issue with Jets general manager John Idzik telling the media that Cribbs' knee "wasn't quite right."

"I don't know why a GM would come out and say that, other than using it as a negotiation tactic," Cribbs said, via the Bay Area News Group. "I think everybody knew what was going on with that."

While Cribbs believes Idzik's comments were a money maneuver, it's quite possible one more team's doctors weren't convinced the formerly dynamic returner would return to form so quickly.

Cribbs isn't worried in the least.

"If we were lining up to play football in June, then this would be a hot topic," he said. "I will be ready to play football when it's time to play football."

[NFL News] Michael Vick Is 'Noticeably Bigger,' Excited For New Eagles Offense

Eagles QB Michael Vick has been given an incredible opportunity to turn his career around in an offensive system that might just suit his skill set.

Vick seems to know what a great chance this is, too. Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer notes that Vick's "motivation" this year can't be overstated.

"(Vick's) noticeably bigger and enthused about the offense," Berman writes.

Vick has spoken plenty that he ran less last season by design. Now, he's in an offense that should play to his strengths (mobility) with a vastly improved, healthier offensive line.

[NFL News] Dolphins Sign Rookie TE Dion Sims To Contract

Dolphins rookie tight end Dion Sims, the fourth-round pick from Michigan State, has signed his contract with the team, the Dolphins announced Friday.

Sims, the 106th selection, will receive a contract similar to fellow fourth-round pick linebacker Jelani Jenkins ($2.57 million value, $472,000 signing bonus), the 104th pick, based on the rookie salary scale.

The Dolphins expect Sims to be a contributor this season. He�ll be competing for playing time with fellow tight ends Dustin Keller, Charles Clay and Michael Egnew.

[NFL News] Titans LB Moise Fokou Charged With DUI Back In January

A United States Park Police officer arrested Titans reserve linebacker Moise Fokou around 3 AM on a Friday in January. The officer pulled Fokou over after witnessing Fokou drive his BMW at a high rate of speed and across the solid double yellow lines on 14th Street near McPherson Square, the arresting officer said in a sworn statement.

"As I was speaking with [Fokou] I detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage," the arresting officer said in the statement. "His eyes were bloodshot and watery while his speech was slurred."

Fokou told the officer that "he had a few drinks" at a DC nightclub, and claimed his BMW "just takes off sometimes," said the officer.

After administering a field sobriety test on Fokou, the officer placed Fokou under arrest. Fokou was taken to a Park Police station; he declined to take a breath alcohol test.

[NFL News] Patriots Sign 2nd-Rd Pick LB Jamie Collins

The Patriots have announced that second-round pick Jamie Collins, who was the first player the team drafted this year after trading out of the first round, has signed his contract.

Under the rookie salary slotting system, as the 52nd overall pick Collins' deal has a total value of around $3.76 million, with a signing bonus of $1.1 million.

The 23-year old Collins, listed at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, moved from safety to linebacker to 4-3 defensive end during his time at Southern Mississippi, and his play caught teams' eyes even as the Golden Eagles plodded through a winless season last fall.

Collins is the fourth of New England's seven draft picks to sign.

[NFL News] Broncos QB Peyton Manning Renegotiates Contract To Include Insurance Clause

Because it wouldn't be fair to have a slow news day in the NFL, Peyton Manning and the Broncos agreed to a renegotiated contract on Friday. Despite the headline-grabbing nature of that sentence, the change is actually "very minor" a source tells CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman.

The "new" deal shows up on the NFL.com transactions page and is listed as a "Renegotiated Contract."

Manning's "new" contract was first reported by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, who wrote that the contract "reflects that the team has purchased an insurance policy in the event Manning suffers a serious injury."

Freeman confirms the Broncos are "protecting themselves for cap purposes" -- the insurance clause helps protect Denver in the event that their quarterback, slated to make $40 million guaranteed over the next two years, suffers a major injury not relating to the neck injury that ended his run with the Colts.

[NFL News] Redskins Sign 2nd-Rd Pick CB David Amerson

The Washington Redskins announced the signing of cornerback David Amerson, the team's highest selection in last month's NFL Draft, on Friday.

The Redskins took Amerson, who led the nation with 13 interceptions as a sophomore at North Carolina State in 2011, with the 19th pick (51st overall) of the second round. The team did not have a first-rounder as part of last year's trade with St. Louis that enabled Washington to land reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall draft of the 2012 draft.

Amerson won the Jack Tatum Award honoring the top defensive back in college football following his sophomore campaign with the Wolfpack, and set a school record with 18 career interceptions before declaring for the draft as an early entry.

[NFL News] Buccaneers Waive Willie Moseley, Sign No One

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have waived linebacker Willie Moseley, per the NFL transaction wire. Moseley played alongside Bucs fifth-round pick Steven Means at Buffalo as a pass-rushing outside linebacker, while Means mostly lined up as a 3-4 defensive end in his final season. Moseley was competing for a linebacker spot, but has apparently failed to impress during rookie workouts so far, no new player was listed for the Buccaneers, who now have a roster spot to fill on their 90-man roster.

According to Jenna Laine, the Buccaneers are rumored to be interested in linebacker Dom Decicco, who was released by the Chicago Bears five days ago. Decicco played for new Buccaneers special teams coordinator in college at Pittsburgh and went undrafted in 2011. He has played 20 NFL games as a special teamer only, but his signing is little more than a rumor at this point.

[NFL News] NFL Suspends Seahawks DE Bruce Irvin For Four Games For Violating PED Policy

The NFL has suspended Seattle Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin without pay for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league policy on performance enhancing substances.

Irvin will be eligible to return to the Seahawks' active roster on Sept. 30, one day afer their game against the Houston Texans.

Irvin is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.

[NFL News] Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski Could Need Back Surgery

New England Patriots' tight end Rob Gronkowski recently underwent an MRI on his back to check on a disc issue he had dating back to last season, a person informed of Gronkowski's medical status told Mike Garafolo of USA Today.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the Patriots' policy of not publicly detailing injuries, said the issue is with a different disc than the one that needed to be shaved down in via surgery 2009 and that a final decision on whether surgery will be required has not yet been made. The person said Gronkowski will see noted spine specialist Robert Watkins in the near future, after next week's surgery to install a new plate into his forearm.

The person said the hope is, if surgery on his back is required, Gronkowski will be back within the same time frame as his recovery from the arm injury, which he initially suffered in November but has been prolonged because of an infection in the limb.

The second-year wide receiver says he's dropped 14 pounds this offseason through one simple trick: Laying off the junk food.

"I'm in the best shape I've ever been," Wright told the team's official site.

"For the most part, it wasn't about the running. I just started taking care of my body and eating right. I wasn't eating right at all. I was eating a lot of junk food because that's what I like and that's what I'd buy, but I cut down on that and just started eating right."

Wright is down to 187 pounds after using his time away from the game to work out at Baylor, his alma mater. Wright hopes a trimmer frame will help him with "breaks, running routes and getting back and making all the cuts that I need to make."

The Titans need Wright to follow up his 64-catch, 626-yard rookie campaign with more production in Year Two, with Tennessee reportedly preparing for "life after" Kenny Britt -- and with Nate Washington's future unclear -- it's Wright and rookie Justin Hunter who loom as the future of this passing attack.

While at University of Missouri, Maclin was one of the college game�s best multi-dimensional threats. Of his 33 career college touchdowns, he scored three on punt returns and two more on kickoffs.

�Yeah, we'll look at Mac back there,� Kelly said, sticking to his clean-slate approach. To date, Kelly hasn�t anointed any of his players into starting spots yet, even the obvious ones.

�Again, it's May, so we're going to take a look at him and Damaris [Johnson] and DeSean and [receiver] Nick Miller. Russell Shepard is a guy that's returned punts before, one of the rookies that's out here. So we'll get a bunch of those guys because you never know in a game; all of a sudden two guys are hurt.

�When you've only got a 46-man [game] roster, someone has got to go back there, and hopefully it's someone that's fielded punts before. Longtime Browns writer Steve Doerschuk of The Canton Repository reported this week that Campbell showed up to organized team activities with "(Ben) Roethlisberger-like size."

"Campbell's clearly bigger than Brandon Weeden. He made (third-string passer) Thaddeus Lewis look like a shrimp," wrote Doerschuk, who added that the seven-year veteran passer "definitely had better sessions than Weeden" on Thursday. Campbell displayed a strong, deep ball on long strikes to receivers Travis Benjamin and Jordan Norwood.

Weeden -- at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds -- opened OTAs with the first team, but Campbell -- listed at 6-foot-5, 230 -- was signed as insurance with an opportunity to fight for the job. The Browns also inked Brian Hoyer on Thursday, which means Lewis (aka "shrimp") is on thin ice.

With the NFL Draft over and the Bucs selecting NC State QB Mike Glennon in the third round, questions sprung up about the safety of Freeman's job as the starter amidst all the other questions that had been circulating regarding the relationship between Freeman and Schiano.

"Actually I've spent quite a bit of time in coach Schiano's office," Freeman said while on the Sports Page with Tom and Rick Friday morning. "Just getting to know him better and talking about aspirations, what we're trying to do with this team. I actually feel like my relationship with coach Schiano is probably the best of any coach."

After a 2012-2013 season that saw the Bucs offense become a formidable presence in just about every game after the additions of Vincent Jackson, Carl Nicks, and rookie running back Doug Martin, the Bucs still fell short of the playoffs, finishing with a 7-9 record and in a tie for last place in the NFC South. Jets running back Mike Goodson was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun and of marijuana after a 3:15 a.m. arrest last night in Denville, State Police officials confirmed.

The Jets running back was in the passenger side of a vehicle that was stopped dead in the middle of the left lane on Route 80 West, a tow truck came up behind the vehicle and called 911 upon seeing the vehicle.

Goodson was taken to the hospital to be evaluated before being transferred to the police barracks to be arrested.

The driver, a 31-year-old Roselle native named Garant Evans was also charged with a DWI, Goodson did not undergo a drug test because he was not behind the steering wheel.

The gun found in Goodson's possession was loaded with hollow-point bullets, police said.

When reached for comment, a Jets spokesman said: "We are aware of the report and are gathering information."

The 6-foot-1, 241-pound Williams was taken with the 124th overall pick out of Connecticut. He's one of five drafted players signed by Houston, also including tackle David Quessenberry, receiver Alan Bonner, defensive tackle Chris Jones and tight end Ryan Griffin.

Williams started 30 of 50 games he played in for Connecticut and had a school-record 30� career sacks.

In a statement Thursday, one day after he "retired" from the Baltimore Ravens in the wake of his third arrest in 16 months, McClain, 23, said his priority right now is cleaning up his off-field situation. The linebacker said he hopes one day he will be on the field again.

"Clearly, my decision to retire has raised some questions. Quite simply, I love football, but I have decided at this time it is in my best interest to focus on getting my personal life together," McClain's statement read. "Beyond that, I'm not sure what the future holds for me, including football."

"This was entirely my decision and the Ravens have been very supportive during this process. I am very grateful for the opportunity they gave me and wish them the best of luck in the future," McClain said. "God willing, maybe I'll play for them one day."

�This is a voluntary situation and every player has to make his own decisions,� Emery said. �Gabe has made a decision that he wants to stay in Arizona and train, and we respect that. And he�ll be welcomed with open arms when he comes back.�

Carimi has been training in Arizona for the bulk of the offseason, but did participate in the Bears� voluntary minicamp in April. He said then that his primary focus is getting his leg back to 100 percent after being hobbled last season and sitting out most of his rookie year.

Carimi was the Bears� starting right tackle for the first 10 games of last season before being replaced by veteran Jonathan Scott.

In March, the Jets signed David Garrard to a one-year deal worth up to $1.35 million to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster. Garrard's left knee forced him to call it quits on Wednesday, but the Jets have provided him with an opportunity to return as a coach during this year's training camp.

"The Jets offered me the chance to come back if I want to take a shot at that coaching thing with an internship in training camp,'' said Garrard, whose wife recently gave birth to the couple's third child. "I told them I'd talk with my wife about it, so I could still work with those guys. "It's definitely something I'm considering.''

With Garrard out of the fold on the roster, 2013 second-round pick Geno Smith is expected to press the much-maligned incumbent Mark Sanchez for the starting role. Garrard said the battle will be fought during the preseason.

"If he [Sanchez] goes out there as the vet and gets back to just playing ball and not thinking too much on the field, he's going to make it tough on [the coaching staff],'' Garrard said. "It's up to those guys [Smith and Sanchez], the way they carry themselves and handle the offense, really putting points on the board and winning ballgames.

"So when they get to the preseason, it's really going to show who should be the guy.''

The Miami Dolphins have signed three of nine players selected in the 2013 draft, Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Linebacker Jelani Jenkins, kicker Caleb Sturgis and cornerback Don Jones signed their four-year contracts on Tuesday.

Jenkins was the Dolphins' first fourth-round selection (104th overall) in the 2013 draft. Based on the salary template for rookies he's supposed to receive a four-year contract that pays him $2.57 million, and features a signing bonus of $472,688.

Sturgis, another Gator, was the second of Miami�s two fifth-round selections (166th overall). Sturgis should receive a four-year contract worth $2.24 million, which includes a $144,560 signing bonus.

A 5-foot-7, 192-pound running back out of Florida State, Thompson was selected with the 154th overall pick of the draft. The Redskins did not release terms of the contract, but the worth of the deal is similar to the four-year, $2.3 million contract that last year�s 154th overall pick � Seattle linebacker Kory Toomer � signed.

Thompson appeared in 38 games during his career at Florida State and he carried the ball 277 times for 1,735 yards and 14 touchdowns. Thompson suffered a broken vertebra in his back in 2011, and had his 2012 season cut short by a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The Jaguars have shifted the former first-round draft pick from defensive tackle to defensive end, getting the 6-foot-3, 295-pound Hawaiian in a run-stopping role while allowing him to work in space.

"We feel it's a good fit," coach Gus Bradley said Wednesday. "He's all in favor of it, feels like it's a better fit for him."

Alualu was the 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft, a selection widely considered a reach. It didn't help that Alualu injured his right knee in the preseason of his rookie year and instead of getting surgery, he played two years with nagging pain and occasional swelling.

Now, though, Alualu's knee feels the best it has since college and could allow him to flourish in his new role off the edge. "I tell you what, it's been the best it's felt for the offseason," Alualu said. "It's real close to 100 percent."

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday on "NFL Total Access" that the New England Patriots tight end's fourth arm surgery is imminent, according to two sources informed of Gronkowski's prognosis. The plan is for the surgery to happen Monday, though it could happen earlier. Gronkowski had X-rays taken Wednesday as a precursor to surgery.

The Patriots expect Gronkowski to be ready for training camp, but they won't have a true idea on his timetable until the plate in his arm is replaced.

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam reiterated Thursday morning that he had no knowledge whatsoever of the rebate fraud that spawned an FBI investigation into his truck-stop company, Pilot Flying J.

�I take responsibility for what happens at PFJ as the guy at the top of the shop, but I was absolutely not aware of any of this,� he said while speaking at a trucking conference in Indianapolis. �As soon as we found out there was an issue, we immediately began taking an aggressive stance in finding out what happened.�

Haslam's company is being investigated for intentionally withholding rebates from its customers to boost profits.

The Browns owner said his company has contracts with 5,000 trucking companies and, of the total, �approximately 250 of those manual rebate companies had some type of adjustment,� he said. "That doesn't mean they were wrong, but it looks to us like some kind of adjustments were made to the benefit of our company and to the detriment of the trucking company."

Haslam has met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, but the league has yet to levy any punishment.

Those acquisitions are joining a tight end corps that already featured Brent Celek and Harbor.

Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley believes he and teammate Ndamukong Suh are the best defensive tackle duo in the NFL.

�We�re going to give guys trouble, man," Fairley told the Detroit Lions' team website. "It�s like pick your poison this year with our defensive line. You cannot come in and double-team Ndamukong and you can�t come in and double-team me.�

If Fairley and Suh can avoid distractions both on and off the field, this has potential to be a correct assumption. The potential both players possess is great enough to cause plenty of problems for opposing offensive lines.

Fairley had a solid 2012 season, recording 5.5 sacks along the interior. If that production increases, with another quality year from Suh, then the defensive front could have the opportunity to live up to the potential Fairley speaks of.

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson is likely to get some looks in the read option at running back under Chip Kelly's offense Bob Grotz of the Delaware County Times reports.

�There might be plays where DeSean is in the backfield, you never know,� running back LeSean McCoy said. �I mean every time we come out here it�s always something different. It�s always a surprise. So you don�t know what to look forward to.�

De�Anthony Thomas did the same thing for Kelly at Oregon.

�Right now that�s the big thing because we�re able to motion from both sides, motion from side to side,� Jackson said. �Go behind the quarterback. Go in front of the quarterback. Things like that.

�There�s just so many different options. That�s the biggest thing I can say is this offense really doesn�t have any limits. There�s plenty of options regardless of how the defense is playing.�

[NFL News] Jets Rookie CB Dee Milliner Fires His Agency

Jets cornerback Dee Milliner has fired his agency, Impact Sports, after failing to be selected in the top five of the 2013 NFL Draft. The move made him the second high-profile Jets selection, after Geno Smith, to do so after a draft deemed less than satisfying.

Milliner now must wait five days before hiring a new agency.

Tony Fleming, the lead agent on Milliner, confirmed the news in a statement, saying Milliner had terminated their services.

"I know that everything was done to ensure that Mr. Milliner would be drafted as high as possible," Fleming said. "Dee was the first cornerback selected, and he was drafted ninth overall to the New York Jets. This is a tremendous accomplishment. I wish Mr. Milliner future success in his professional career."
