Lions DE Cliff Avril Reports To Training Camp

After missing the first nine days and eight practices of Detroit Lions training camp, franchised defensive end Cliff Avril is ready to join his teammates, Justin Rogers of Mlive.com reports. According to the Tim Twentyman of Detroitlions.com Avril reported to camp on Sunday morning. After failing to reach an agreement with the team on a long-term deal last month, Avril's only option was to sign the one-year, $10.6 million franchise tender. Without the stability of a multi-year contract, staying away from the early portion camp was viewed by Avril as a way to prevent serious injury.

One year, $10.6M. Not a long-term deal but a nice chunk of change for one year. Just be smart with the money and you'll have no issues down the road. I dunno if a long-term deal is in the cards for Avril though.
