Lions DE Cliff Avril Waiting For Word On Contract Talks

The Lions and Cliff Avril's agent continue to talk. Yes, he wants to be in training camp later this month and wants to be part of a Lions championship season but for now he is working out on his own and hoping to get that phone call. He has until July 16 to sign a tender with the Lions or sit out the season. He is expected to sign the tender because he wants to play. Avril hopes the deadline day never comes. "I hope not but you never know," Avril said. "This is my first go-round. I am just waiting on the call saying I am coming back to work." Avril believes he is trending upwards because he got a late start in football, beginning as a 10th grader. "Who is to say, five years ago I would be in this position?" Avril said. "A lot of things are possible and I do feel I can go out and become one of the elite athletes out there. But with a lot of hard work all will pay off."
