Browns Rookie QB Brandon Weeden Struggles In His Debut

Brandon Weeden is 28 years old, but he’s still new to the NFL and prone to the types of miscues that often haunt rookies. It showed during the Browns’ 19-17 win over the Detroit Lions in the preseason opener for both teams Friday night at Ford Field. Weeden, whom coach Pat Shurmur named the Browns’ starting quarterback on Monday, committed two turnovers in three series. He completed 3-of-9 passes for 62 yards with one sack, an interception and a fumble before his debut ended and quarterback Colt McCoy took control late in the opening quarter. “I think for the most part, he executed in a way that I thought he would,” Shurmur said of Weeden. “Now there are other things we have to clean up — too many penalties, turning the ball over, some of that stuff we have to make sure we get cleaned up.”

The team in general wasnt very good, but he didn't play badly at all. He missed a few throws but his decision making and reads were on point, he even threw a perfect 25 yard ball right on Travis benjamin's shoulder. Really, a perfect throw. And the fumble call against him was nonsense.

Nice to see Little trying to play defense on the interception. He couldn't strip it but that's something (besides catching and running with the football) that's been sorely lacking from the WRs.

You know the old guys aren't going to put it all on the line in the pre-season, and they shouldn't.

I went to this game, and let me tell you, if Moore is having problems with point of release and batted balls already (and he did), with the lack of pressure the Browns bring, hea gonna have a lot of trouble.

Kid just doesn't have an NFL arm. Even if he can fix his release, he gets way to much air under his balls
