Bears LB Lance Briggs Says 'On Paper, We Look Like A Champion'

He did not refer to the Chicago Bears as a “Dream Team” or anything like that. But Lance Briggs, the seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker, did say “on paper, we look like a champion.” Visiting this morning with the “Mully & Hanley Show” on WSCR-670 AM, Briggs talked about the major expectations for the club that has failed to reach the postseason in four of the last five years. “On paper, we look like a champion, but we have a lot of work to do before we can be called a champion,” Briggs said. “There were moves that were made in the offseason to bring in a lot of veteran (players.) Of course, Brandon Marshall and Michael Bush just put us in a position where we’re able to transition that stuff onto the field to be a real contender.” The Bears made an emphasis of improving the offense under new general manager Phil Emery, adding a top wide receiver and replacing last year’s failed backup back Marion Barber. Paired with quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte, the Bears believe they will have a much more explosive attack. “We definitely have the right ingredients for a high-powered offense,” Briggs said. “When our defense is on the sideline and our offense is scoring points, everybody is happy.”

I don't think on paper they do. I think their only chance is on the field. On paper, they may not make the playoffs.

top 10 QB, top 10 WR, top 7 RB, big physical rookie WR, insanely fast slot WR and a QB who can get it to him 70 yards down the field

Solid all around DL with the best DE in football, solid group of vet LBs, and an ok secondary....i mean realistically they could easily be a playoff team, i think their biggest obstacles are going to be the packers and lions

and and no mike martz, that cant be underestimated with the kind of scheme they are built to run

They really needed to bolster the O line and they did little to nothing to insure that Jay Cutler will not have to throw passes down field on the run or in the grasp of a blitzing defender. The Bears made a BIG splash in free agency this year which was great and they made smart acquisitions on top of it (unlike bringing Marion Barber in for 1 season the previous season) and I too feel they're ripe for a Superbowl run this coming season. I'm very anxious for the season to start and I'm sure they'll have an awesome run toward getting that Lombardi Trophy in Halas Hall again. Go BEARS!!!!!!
