UConn coach Paul Pasqualoni confirmed this morning that senior wide receiver Mike Smith, a 13-game starter who led the Huskies in catches (46) and yards (615) to go along with two touchdowns in 2010, is academically ineligible for the 2011 season. "Michael will be, obviously in the program," Pasqualoni said. "He will be in practice each day. He just will not participate in games." The 6 foot 2, 202-pound Smith, from Houston, Tx., played as a true freshman so this could be considered a redshirt year as far as playing again. "I do think this is a year that he can use to improve himself all the way around and then still have a final year of eligibility," Pasqualoni said. Looks like some of those young wideouts are going to have to step up now. They really don't have a choice.
