Texas A&M finalized a contract with Houston's Kevin Sumlin, who the Aggies have chosen as their new coach, the school announced Saturday. "I believe he is the right person to lead our football program into the Southeastern Conference," Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne said in a statement. "First of all, Kevin is a terrific person. He is also one heck of a recruiter and he will put together a great staff."Sumlin, who had also been a candidate at UCLA and Arizona State for their coaching vacancies, told the team on Saturday afternoon that he was leaving. Houston assistant Tony Levine will coach the Cougars in their bowl game, a source told ESPN.com's Joe Schad. Sumlin arrived at the student athletics center at Houston about noon Saturday. He refused to answer questions as he walked into the building.
well, Sumlin will be coaching big-boy football now and it's a pretty big leap going from conference usa to the SEC West ......... we'll see how he does
I just don't see how this is an improvement over Mike Sherman. At least Sherman had the experience in a major conference. Then again Arkansas St.'s Hugh Freeze took over at Ole Miss.
