Report: Turner Gill to be named Kansas coach | National Football Post
Quote:
Kansas plans to introduce Buffalo coach Turner Gill as its next coach, two people briefed on the decision said Saturday night.

Jayhawks athletic director Lew Perkins had spent the past weeks interviewing candidates to replace Mark Mangino, who resigned under pressure after an investigation into his treatment of players.

Gill spent four years in Buffalo, posting a 20-30 overall record that included a MAC title in 2008.

Freaking disaster...I hate this, I have no idea how anyone would think Turner Gill deserves a BCS conference job.

Talk about going off the map... Wide right should be happy about this... I'm guessing Danny Barrett is next in line for the Bulls.

I'd still have taken Tuberville over Gill. I dunno. I mean 8 years ago we were probably all thinking something similar about Man-mountain-Gino. And after a 2-10 2002 and getting smoked by Philip Rivers in the Tangerine Bowl in 03... no one knew what to think. And then weird things started happening at Kansas. They won. They ended nightmare losing streaks to Kansas State and Nebraska. They won the Fort Worth Bowl by demolishing Kevin Kolb's Houston Cougars. Then Todd Reesing and the #2 national ranking and the Orange Bowl happened...

I guess all I can say is give it time. Sometimes a guy just needs a break. Bill Belichick wasn't a "genius" after an unsuccessful tenure in Cleveland and a 5-11 2000 season in New England... it took time. Welcome to Lawrence, Turner Gill. Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

Turner was 20-30 at Buffalo...sure he inherited a crap program. He won the MAC title one year but his team immediately regressed. Tuberville would have been a 10 times better hire.

Haha, no....I gotta support the coach of my team now. Nothing I can do about it at this point. I'm just disappointed in the hire.

This hire blows. I suppose they're banking on Gill recruiting in Texas where he has the ties. Or KU was just trying to avoid Charles Barkley descending upon Lawrence waving his "Y'alls racists" banner.
