OSU's Jim Tressell In Trouble With The NCAA?

TRESSEL'S TRIP INCURS NCAA QUESTIONS

Quote:
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel rewarded two players who made last year's Academic All-America team by taking them to the Final Four.

That could get him in trouble with the NCAA.

Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Tressel's gift to the two Ohio State players, Anthony Gonzalez and Stan White, came only after both had finished playing football for the Buckeyes and had signed with agents, meaning there was no chance that they could play for Ohio State again. But technically, the NCAA may still view that as an improper benefit to a football player. Ohio State's compliance officer reported the issue himself.

As these things go, Tressel's violation seems like a very minor one. But the NCAA has been known to make a big issue of minor violations in the past.

I don't see that as a violation at all. As much as I loathe the sweater-vested one, he didn't do anything wrong here.

Let's hope the NCAA sees it that way. You know they jump at any chance to make a statement.
