Wide receiver Darryl Stonum has been dismissed from the Michigan football team for a violation of team rules.The school announced the dismissal Tuesday, less than two weeks after Stonum was jailed for violating his probation. He was ticketed for driving on a revoked driver's license, which violated his probation following a May 2011 arrest for driving while visually impaired."I love Darryl and wish him nothing but the absolute best," Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. "However, there is a responsibility and a higher standard you must be accountable to as a University of Michigan football student-athlete. That does not and will not change. It's unfortunate because I believe he has grown a great deal as a person since the beginning of the season. My hope is that maturing process continues."The 10-day jail term was the latest in a litany of alcohol-related legal issues for the Stafford, Texas native.The May 2011 drunken driving arrest was Stonum's second while at Michigan. The 21-year-old was previously arrested for operating a vehicle while visibly impaired in Sept. 2008. He then violated his probation from that arrest, landing him in jail for three days in the summer of 2010.
