| Ex-Falcon FS Ray Easterling Found Dead; Ruled A Suicide
Former NFL safety Ray Easterling, who filed a high-profile lawsuit with the NFL targeting the league's handling of concussion-related injuries, died on Thursday. FOXSports.com is reporting Easterling, 62, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in Richmond, Va. According to police, Easterling was found with a handgun nearby. His wife, Mary Ann, contacted the police at 6:14 a.m. Richmond Police Captain Yvonne Crowder ruled Easterling's death a suicide. Easterling helped lead the Atlanta Falcons' vaunted "Gritz Blitz" defense from 1972 to 1979. Atlanta's '77 defense set the NFL record for fewest points allowed in a season. "He was one of the hardest working football players, most disciplined football players I've ever played with," said Greg Brezina, a friend and former Falcons teammate. "He loved the lord. We roomed together in training camp and every morning we would get up early and pray for everybody on the team. We did that every day. He was a very unselfish person." Source: USA Today |
