Titans Safety Hope To Miss Rest Of Season Quote:
Friday, 12/07/07 Titans safety Hope to miss rest of season
By JIM WYATT Staff Writer
Titans safety Chris Hope will miss the rest of the season after tests revealed he has an injury to his spinal cord, Coach Jeff Fisher said today.
Hope was injured during the Nov. 25 game at Cincinnati. The team initially tested for concussion symptoms, but further tests revealed an injury which could require surgery. Fisher said he doesn't believe the injury is career threatening, however.
“After numerous studies and opinions, Chris Hope's season is over,’’ Fisher said. “The doctors don't feel it is safe for him to finish the season. It is not a career-ending injury by any means.
"We are going to continue to evaluate it. He may heal up as a result of rest, and we have not ruled out surgery as a possibility.''
Hope, a sixth-year pro who signed with the Titans as a free agent in 2006, had 60 tackles and two interceptions this season.
Calvin Lowry will again start in Hope's place on Sunday when the Titans play the Chargers at LP Field.
“The crazy thing about this league is you are always one play from getting out there and playing,’’ said Lowry, who earlier in the season started for the Titans at free safety. “It is unfortunate with Chris, but I am back in there now and hopefully I can make the best of it.’’
The Titans placed Hope on injured reserve and promoted receiver Biren Ealy from their practice squad. Ealy, an undrafted free agent, started the season on the 53-man roster was inactive for the first two games.
| Other reports make it seem a lot more serious. Hopefully it doesn't linger.
