Reggie Williams' Work Is Paying Off Williams' work is paying off Quote:
As Reggie Williams lined up wide left before the snap, he salivated at the thought of being in single coverage against the Buffalo Bills defense on a slant route.
It didn't matter that Jaguars quarterback David Garrard, who finished with a career-high 296 passing yards, hadn't thrown him a pass all day. Williams just had a feeling something big was about to happen.
A few seconds and 59 yards later, it did. The first-round draft pick who has waited three-plus years to be the impact player the Jaguars anticipated was hula-dancing in the end zone.
Just another sign that maybe Williams, along with the rest of the team's receiving corps, is finally emerging as a weapon that defenses must respect.
On a day when the Jaguars had three receivers (Ernest Wilford, Dennis Northcutt and tight end Marcedes Lewis) catch at least five passes, a first since the 2004 season, Williams provided the lightning-bolt highlight.
He shook free from Buffalo cornerback Jabari Greer, snaring the perfectly timed pass from Garrard after Williams ran past the linebacker, and easily won a foot race to the goal line.
With the Jaguars facing third-and-7 and clinging to a 22-14 lead, Williams' heroics with 2:39 left in the game sealed an eventual 36-14 victory over the Bills. It also advanced the notion that Williams and the receiver unit is transforming its image as the team's biggest weakness.
In the past four games, Williams has three touchdown catches and a 26-yard reception that set up another score. He appears to be maturing into a receiver with a more promising future than many envisioned back in training camp.
