Dolphins: Infuriating Futility Source: Omar Kelly, Sun-Sentinel Quote: Infuriating Futility
Last Sunday it was the Dolphins defense that had reason to hide their face after falling apart in the overtime loss to the Redskins. This Sunday none of the Dolphins units are off the hook because everyone caved.
Trent Green, whose QB rating for the game was a whopping 57, threw four picks and turned the ball over five times.
Ronnie Brown continued his bumbling ways, gaining 33 yards on 11 carries, failing to provide much of a ground game. And that's with or without many holes.
Outside of Jay Feely's steady foot the special teams unit was lackluster at best, with Ted Ginn Jr. failing to use his speed to turn the corner on his returns.
The Dolphins front line made Dallas quarterback Tony Romo look like a perennial All Pro, eluding their pass rush all game to continuously make some "I can't believe he did that" throws.
To sum up the Dolphins performance against a VERY GOOD team, the only way to assess the Dolphins after two weeks is to conclude they are PRETTY BAD.
So the bottom line is both the offense and defense deserve the burden - no... better yet... the blame - for Sunday's embarrassing 37-20 loss to Dallas.
And throw the coaching staff into that pile too because the Dolphins made former Miami assistant Jason Garrett seem like the next coming of Cam Cameron, who surely must miss the days when all he had to do was worry about fixing the Chargers offense.
This weeks priority No. 1 on Cameron's to do list must be puffing up a deflated team, one with a battered ego.
"They took it to us, give them credit," said linebacker Zach Thomas said. "I'm disappointed, but it's my job to lead the defense and get us back on track."
How do they fix the problems?
Every man to himself, step up, look in the mirror and know what youve got to do to get better," said linebacker Joey Porter, the Dolphins top offseason acquisition, who contributed two tackles despite being on the field in the nickel package this week.
Porter's sentiments in the locker room was a running theme, one that was probably given to the players in the post game pep talk by Cameron, or one of the team captains.
The team seems in pain after the game, which is at least a good sign.
Roughly 40 minutes after the game Thomas and Jason Taylor, two team captains, two brothers by marriage, sat in the middle of the locker room for a pow wow. While Thomas examined the play-by-play recap and stat sheet, Taylor appeared to be pouring out his soul.
I couldn't overhear the conversation, but I can only imagine the exchange they had....How do we fix this....How do we continue to have hope....What could, or should we be doing differently?
What do you think was said? Where does this team go to find the answers?
Is this rock bottom?
