Patience, children. The NFL off-season is just getting started. Nothing of significance is likely to happy for at least two more months. Circle April 28 on your calendar. That's the NFL draft, and unless something strange happens, David Carr will be traded around that time.
GM Rick Smith's toughest job will be creating a market for Carr. I'm guessing he's going to have to settle for a fifth-round draft pick, but it only takes one motivated buyer to drive the price up.
As for who is going to replace Carr, I think it'll be Jake Plummer. Problem is, there is a market for him. The Texans probably are going to end up paying more than they'd like to pay. If that deal doesn't get done, I'm guessing Gary Kubiak would give job to Sage Rosenfels and feel pretty good about things. Regardless, look for the Texans to take a quarterback in the draft, probably in the third or fourth round.
Honestly.....who is gonna trade for David Carr? There are only a couple of teams where he would (arguably) be better than the current starter. And Oakland is gonna draft one. I can't believe anybody is gonna want to give up a draft pick AND pick up his contract to pay his salary to be a back-up. My guess is we are either going to be stuck with him again or dump him.--Eugene.
Well, uh, uh... I wish you wouldn't throw facts into my bulletproof argument. The Texans probably already know the best they're going to get for David is a second-day draft choice to go someplace and compete for a No. 2 job. Regardless, I just don't believe they'll bring him back.
I've tried to convince myself of a scenario in which it would be better for all concerned to bring David back and give him one more chance. Let's say they drafted Adrian Peterson and upgraded the O-line. David would have to play better in those circumstances.
He would still have to make some plays, to make some correct decisions every game. If Peterson is the real deal, teams would bring a safety up, and then it would really be on David's shoulders. He hasn't shown he's capable of making those plays. It's time for him to go.
