Canes Coach Al Golden Not Discussing His "Departure Clause" In Contract

Even with potential sanctions looming and an NCAA investigation ongoing, University of Miami coach Al Golden has smiled and reminded reporters on multiple occasions just how happy he and his wife are to be living in South Florida. On Saturday, Golden did it again, but only after sidestepping a question as to whether there might be a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave UM penalty-free should the NCAA come down hard on the program. “I’m not going to get into all that,” said Golden, who earlier this week told reporters UM officials had a responsibility to inform him and newly hired athletic director Shawn Eichorst if they knew of the allegations made by convicted Ponzi schemer Nevin Shapiro. “Listen, my family and I are excited about being here, OK? This is a great place, and we’re going to get this fixed.” In a statement issued Tuesday, UM said it notified the NCAA of Shapiro’s allegations 12 months ago and reached out to his attorney, who UM claims refused to provide any facts to school officials. The NCAA said Wednesday it began its investigation in March.

If he's sincere and actually steers the ship through out this time at Miami he will be martyred in Miami.

I feel bad for him. I think they screwed him over. Maybe this explains why so many coaches didn't take the job. Perhaps he was the only one who didn't know about the investigation. Either way I would almost guarantee he will find a way out.

I fell ya adam but....

I'm actually starting to think he knew about this going in. And maybe he agreed to the terms and that's why he came out of nowhere to coach the Canes.

No doubt he turned Temple into a "respectable" team. But as Warren Sapp said when he was hired, WHO?
