If Wake Forest is able to return to contention in ACC football this fall, the Deacons will do so without cornerback Kevin Johnson and defensive end Kevin Smith. Coach Jim Grobe said Wednesday that Johnson plans to return in 2012 after redshirting for the 2011 season while academically ineligible. He said that Smith is gone for good, having been dismissed because of repeated disciplinary issues. Johnson and Smith both played in 11 games and started five last season, Johnson as a first-year freshman and Smith as a redshirt sophomore.
